Garnets are a group of silicate minerals that come in a variety of colours, though they are most commonly associated with red. Garnet ranges from 6.5 to 7.5 (out of 10) on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. It is the birthstone of January.

Garnet is believed by some to represent love and friendship, and offer protection, strength, and courage.

The word ‘garnet’ is thought to come from the Latin word, ‘granatus’, meaning ‘seed’ or ‘grain’, which is likely a reference to Garnet’s resemblance to pomegranate seeds.

Garnets have been used by many throughout history, including Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans.
According to some biblical legends, Noah brought a garnet onto the ark as a source of light. The brightness of the stone was said to illuminate the surroundings, allowing for safe travel through the sea when the sun and moon didn’t shine.

It is believed that Garnet has a long history of being used for protection by various kings and warriors, including the King Solomon of Israel mentioned in the bible.

It is also said that Garnets exchanged between friends will ensure they will meet again.
